u:Maintain / CMS
Some businesses and organisations need the ability to make updates to their web site frequently and without the need to involve their web designer.
To provide this capability we offer a service we call u:Maintain, which is based on the Drupal content management system or CMS.
Historically, web sites consisted of content created on a PC and uploaded to a web server for display in a browser.
Content management systems enable the text and images to be managed in a browser and stored on the web server directly.
Examples of web sites include http://data.gov.uk and http://www.economist.com/. An estimated 7.2 million sites used Drupal as of July 2010.
No Software Required
To update and manage your site, you need no web design and management software installing on your PC and can manage your content from any PC with an Internet connection.
The software that provides the framework in which your site runs is "Open Source" and is made available though a public license agreement.
Wide Functionality
With over 10,000 "add-on" modules available to extend the functionality of the core software, there is a huge range of options to provide the functionality you need for your organisation's requirements.
After selecting the appropriate modules we document the details of their functionality and usage and provide this information to the designated administrators of the site.
Maintenance
The Drupal software used to run your web site is under a constant programme of development - version 7 was released in January 2011.
As part of the service we provide, we periodically upgrade your site to maintain currency with the Drupal core software and the modules that have been used.
Should component modules need upgrading, perhaps to fix a problem or to provide additional functionality, these can be upgraded as required.
Any additional features and facilities can be developed and added to your web site as required.
